James Paddock releases new digital album – 30 in 30

22nd January 2015:

Howtoprogramdrums.com subscribers will already be familiar with the work of James Paddock through his Midi Drum Tracks series that are available and downloadable for free (the download links to a new individual full drum track are sent out with each e-mail to subscribers twice a week) and also on sale as a complete 151 track MEGA Pack here:

James has just released a new selection of tracks called “30 in 30” on Bandcamp. You can stream this while you read right now, simply by clicking on the little play button in the margin on the right.

James writes: “30-in-30 is a collection of thirty songs I’ve speedwritten over the course of 2013-2015. All of these tracks were written in thirty minutes or less (or just a bit more*), hence the totally original name. A wide and experimental variety of styles and moods are on show here, much more so than my usual work.

* I should make it clear that some of these songs weren’t consciously speedwritten, others just took me longer because I struggled a bit with ideas, or I simply lost track of time and did way more than I should have with the track.”

James’s style has evolved through the years from listening to midi games music composed by Bobby Prince (Doom) , Lee Jackson (Duke Nukem 3D), Mark Klem (Wacky Wheels), Kevin Schilder (Heretic) and others. If you have played some of these games then you may feel a surge of nostalgia as you listen to the album. The tracks were carefully rendered using the sounds from a Roland Sound Canvas so they have that classic midi flavour. James is a second year student at the Western Australian Academy for the Performing Arts (WAAPA).
