James Paddock releases Saturn X Soundtrack Episodes 1 & 2

23rd January 2015:

James has been busy!

Here’s another new digital album release on Bandcamp, hot on the heels of  yesterday’s reported 30 in 30. This one is a new double album, consisting of 25 tracks in total.

Saturn X Soundtrack – Episode 1 offers 14 tracks and Saturn X Soundtrack – Episode 2 offers 11 further tracks from the soundtrack for the popular “Doom” mod Back To Saturn X.

It’s a varied offering of up tempo rock and orchestrated music featuring menacing atmospheric tones, with a smattering of influences such as Dream Theatre and early Genesis being evident, all given the 1990’s Roland Sound Canvas treatment.

Tricky time signatures, soothing strings, double bass drum patterns, synth solos, layered midi lead guitars, harmonised lead melodies and arpeggios, brooding bass, and James’s intricate drum patterns are all brought together in a carefully crafted blend of tones and tunes to help immerse you fully into the Saturn X experience.

Whether you play the original game or not, there is plenty of melody, inventiveness and variation to be had to make this both an interesting and evocative listen. I think it represents some of James’s very best work to date. Stream it yourself and let us know what you think.
